WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Cat Cafe' is a program designed to help resort and restaurant properties
maintain the feral cats on the grounds in a responsible, humane fashion. It's
funded by the generosity of people like you. Cat Cafe' ensures that the colony
of resident cats are spayed and neutered, receive veterinary care, food and
water daily at clean, designated feeding stations.
Why Are "Cat Cafes" Needed?
Stray animals are a worldwide issue, especially in warmer climates. Hotel,
restaurant and other resort type properties are particularly affected by cat
overpopulation. Unchecked feral cat populations can lead to severe
overpopulation, because cats are not spayed or neutered. Diseased and hungry
cats are scavenging in trash bins and spreading trash around in search of food.
This can bring cats into conflict with people, because the cats are considered a
nuisance.
Well meaning hotel guests can intensify the problem by feeding cats near their
accommodations or in restaurant areas. Other guests who are less "cat friendly"
then complain. For example, cats fed by hotel or villa visitor during their
stay, might be unwelcome by the next guest when the cats keep coming in the
room.
The Solution: The Cat Cafe'
Animals R Friends St Maarten is a non profit organization who is striving to
improve the present situation for all involved. This includes hotels,
restaurants, golf courses and other vacation properties affected by feral cat
overpopulation. Attracting stray cats to carefully selected feeding locations
remove them from all food service areas and other places where they are
unwelcome. By feeding cats in designed locations, the health of e cats can be
easily assessed and veterinary care provided as needed. The size of the cat
colony can be controlled through spaying and neutering. This program is funded
with private donations from people like you who care for the well being of Feral
Cats.
Specifics about the Cat Café
Cat Cafes are designated feeding areas for cats. They are attractive, clean and
designed to fit into their surroundings. All cats in this program are being
monitored, spayed and neutered. Resident cats are fed on a daily basis by
designated Animals R Friends' volunteers. A controlled population of cats who is
fed and properly maintained becomes an asset rather than a nuisance. They are
easily identified because their ear has been "tipped" (the tip is cut off while
under anesthesia). This cat colony will also prevent other feral cats from
moving into their territory. The Cat Cafe program aims to keep everyone happy.
The patrons who like cats, the patrons who dislike the cats and the property
owner or manager who needs a controlled and healthy cat population. It's a
win-win situation for all!
