Foster Care Program
What is involved?
Volunteering to provide temporary foster care in your home. All foster volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation, interview with ARF, receive appropriate training and agree to a home check. A Foster Parent will be responsible for the pet for a week to several months.
The animals needing fostering are:
- Puppies or kittens (8 weeks old) that are too young to be adopted;
- Mother cat or dog with nursing kittens or puppies; Feral kittens;
- An abused (shy or fearful) dog or cat that needs socialization and tender loving care;
- An injured dog or cat that is recovering from surgery or illness (may need medication);
- A dog or cat that has a cold or cough;
- Healthy adult animals who need a break from a cage at the vet.
Foster Families for pets of victims of domestic violence and owners will never meet and all information about either party is kept strictly confidential.
Required skills: Knowledge of animal care and experience with animals is preferred. Foster Volunteers must possess patience and compassion and must care for our animals in a responsible manner.
We always have a special need for Foster Volunteers, both for puppies and kittens and adult animals.
